Dining: Jack’s Point

So this will probably be the first of many posts about Jack’s Point, and about food in Jack’s Point. But for now, this is the only restaurant in Jack’s Point – so it gets the distinction of a singular title.

The view is pretty good, too

Without divulging too much, we went exploring Jack’s Point last week. They have an extraordinary golf course – which apparently ranks as #3 in New Zealand! – but since we aren’t members there, we thought we’d just have lunch at the restaurant instead. The view is pretty spectacular, especially on a bright sunny day, but it wasn’t the only notable thing about our meal.

I hate when I read something like “market fish” on the menu. How do I know what you’re serving me? It’s a bit of a crapshoot in most places, but I’ve found that here it generally means, “Shut up, you’ll like it.” Every local fish I’ve had has been light, flaky, and really tasty!  So, when I read “market fish” on the menu at Jack’s Point, I didn’t even ask. (For the record, it was blue cod. Hell, yea!) These were supposed to be black tacos, but the tortillas weren’t gluten-free – the chef handmakes these GF tortillas FROM SCRATCH. Our lunch took a little longer than usual because he made them on demand. Now that’s special!

Accompanying my fish was burnt salsa, avocado, and coriander. Man, it was good. I think 3 were enough, but I probably could have been convinced to eat at least 2 more – they were *that* good. Something tells me, we’ll be back.

For lots of reasons.
